PURPOSE: This article explains how to process an Original Credit Transaction (OCT) in the Virtual Terminal

TABLE OF CONTENTS

1. What is an OCT?

Original Credit Transactions (OCT), also referred as card payouts or unlinked refunds, are a way to return money to a customer's bank account without being tied back to an original capture. As such, it is NOT a refund as it is not tied to a previous purchase, meaning that the amount that can be processed by an OCT is not bound by the amount of the original purchase (unlike a refund where you cannot refund above the captured amount).

You can optionally include a reference to an original transaction in the OCT request. All OCTs are processed via the Virtual Terminal in the APEXX Portal.

 NOTE

If you require the ability to process OCTs, you need to select an acquirer that supports this functionality and ensure that it is enabled for you. You may be issued with separate MIDs for OCT transactions.

2. The Virtual Terminal

The OCT can be processed via the Virtual Terminal, which is a product that has been developed by APEXX, and is located in the Atomic Portal.
